Donut Walls and 4 Other Catering Trends from Four Five One Events

Donut Walls and 4 Other Catering Trends from Four Five One Events

At Catering by Design, a subset of Four Five One Events (the International Catering Association CATIE Award winner for Best Caterer of 2014), we specialize in creative menus and unique event ambiance that make a lasting impression on our clients – a challenge that changes year-to-year.

As the economy improves, companies must be prepared to make more of an impact on their guests. We don’t think inside the box. Our creative team literally sits down, throws ideas onto a dartboard, and then see what sticks. Everyone is raising their expectations, and we encourage all of our peers in the industry to do the same.

Trend 16: Just a Sip

Corporate and wedding clients alike just love a beer sampling station.  Assemble a crowd-pleasing assortment of local craft beers and serve them tasting-room style in miniature pilsners on wooden tasting paddles. Add some salty bar snacks or warm pretzels with grainy mustard, and you’ve got yourself a station folks will be talking about long after the event!

Trend 17: The Case of the Missing Centerpiece

Who needs a centerpiece when your tabletop is a custom-printed design?  It gets really personal when you top a modern white table with acrylic tops printed with a range of images: corporate imagery to support sponsors, monogram for the couple of the moment at their wedding, images of the newly-rolled out product at an investor summit…the options are endless, so long as the only ceiling you’re working with is your own creativity.

Trend 18: Homer-Approved Fare

Event guests are surprised and delighted when something as simple as the donut gets elevated to cuisine – or even art! Plated, or at an action station, donuts can be sautéed with butter and brown sugar, then topped with delicious hand-crafted ice cream whose color or flavor compliments the event the dessert is being devoured at. Think a scoop of mocha for an awesome “Donuts and Coffee” station at a breakfast fundraiser. If that doesn’t do it for you, the Donut Wall is as beautiful as it is delicious, and there isn’t a guest alive who won’t be drawn to the aesthetic, aromatic goodness of this creation.

Trend 19: Outside Comes In

While we are certain we’ve never said we can control the weather, we continue to get more and more inquiries for garden-style fetes…where we can guarantee not threat of rain. Since we haven’t figured out weather manipulation yet, the only solution is to bring the garden indoors. Faux hedge walls are the most effective way to bring manicured greenery into an event space – and we love to adorn them with antique style mirrors or colorful framed images.

Trend 20: Feathers and Flora

Feathers are making their way back into floral arrangements. Use colorful peacock plumes in traditional and more modern presentations to create an intriguing, stylized centerpiece to life. Discover the theme of an event, then tell a story through the flowers, and don’t stop with flora and feathers: leather straps and studs, crystal vases, sheet music-wrapped candles, are all great additions to create an artistic masterpiece.
